What You Can Do After This Chapter

Learning objective. Learner explains ISO 20022 structure, including business concepts, message definitions, XML syntax, and the roles of pacs, pain, camt, and admi messages, and navigates the message catalogue confidently. Learner practises this skill on realistic banking cases, explaining the reasoning clearly and using correct terminology throughout the work.

Practical assessment. Learner compares an MT103 and a pacs.008 for the same 8,000 dollar payment, mapping each MT field to its ISO 20022 equivalent in a table. Learner then reads a sample pain.001 file, identifies the debtor, creditor, amount, and execution date, and explains how the message definition, schema, and business rules fit together. Learner presents the work with calculations and assumptions stated clearly, then reviews it against the chapter checklist and corrects any gaps before submission.

Expected deliverables.

Completion criterion. Learner maps at least eight fields correctly, reads the pain.001 values accurately, and explains the message family roles without confusing pacs with pain. Judgement covers accuracy, completeness, and clear written explanation in the submitted work.
