Follow a payment end to end through every lifecycle stage, from initiation to final settlement, and learn where it can stop, fail or be returned along the way.

What You Can Do After This Chapter

Learning objective. Learner walks a payment from initiation through validation, screening, clearing, settlement, and reconciliation, and identifies the controls and failure points at each stage of the lifecycle. Learner applies this skill in realistic banking scenarios, with clear examples and correct terminology throughout.

Practical assessment. Learner follows a 25,000 dollar corporate payment from initiation in internet banking to final reconciliation, documenting the checks, messages, and status changes at each stage. Learner then injects three failures, a wrong account number, a sanctions hit, and a cut-off miss, and explains the exact stage, status, and recovery action for each. Learner submits all work with sources, calculations, and assumptions stated clearly, and reviews the result against the chapter checklist before submission.

Expected deliverables.

Completion criterion. Learner documents every lifecycle stage in order, places each failure at the correct stage, and states the right recovery action for all three failures. Completion is judged on accuracy, completeness, and clear written explanation throughout.
